About the Experienced Level:

Learning Goals:

Teachers will model and teach Digital Citizenship by the ethical, respectful, and safe use of digital tools and resources that support the creation of a positive digital school culture.

By the end of this module you will:

  1. Evaluate and edit your existing instructional resources to ensure intellectual property rights, copyright laws, and fair use guidelines are followed.
  2. Create and facilitate a student activity in which students are required to follow copyright law and fair use guidelines and are evaluated on their use through a rubric.
  3. Conduct a lesson or activity with students where students will communicate online to demonstrate responsible digital social interaction.
  4. Create and facilitate a lesson or activity where students can communicate with another classroom from around the world and collaborate on a research project.
  5. Create and facilitate a lesson that includes adaptive digital resources for students with individual learning needs.

Instructions:

The Digital Citizenship Focus Area is comprised of 3 competencies (modules): Intellectual Property & Copyright, Ethical Technology Use, and Global Awareness. Participants will complete each competency (module) shown below and submit appropriate artifacts. Once an artifact has been graded and successfully completed you will receive a micro-credential. A micro-credential in the Leadership in Digital Citizenship Focus Area is equivalent to .33 CEUs; for the Experienced level, you may earn 1.0 CEU.

To move from the Experienced level to the Mastery & Beyond level, you will need to complete all of the tasks for each of these competencies in the Experienced level. Ultimately, completing this Focus Area from Novice through Mastery, you may earn 2.0 CEUs and “stack” the micro-credentials to earn a digital badge.

(*The CEU credit identified above is a recommendation only. Each local school district will determine the amount of CEU credits to award to each participant. Based upon course completion, each participant will receive a certificate.)

Time Needed:

Each competency (module) contains an activity for the teacher.  Some modules may take more time for teachers, but on average will take an hour to complete.

The links below identify the three competency learning modules that will be explored in this Focus Area.

You may choose to work through these modules in any order.

To complete the Experienced level, you will need to complete all of the modules.
